NaPoWriMo 6: the inheritance

Day 6’s prompt is as follows: Go to a book you love. Find a short line that strikes you. Make that line the title of your poem. Write a poem inspired by the line. Then, after you’ve finished, change the title completely.

Here goes!

the inheritance

here,
take this, he said.
unfolding my fingers
palm facing up to receive ...
what his unfolding fingers
would soon release.

there passed a moment,
maybe two
as i waited for something.
he smiled broadly, proud, eyes sparkling.
here's nothing.
that's all i got. now it's yours.
